West Side Senior Expo Returns July 27 After COVID Disruption | Local News

The coffee will be hot, the donuts sweet, and the entertainment abound at the West Side Senior Expo, which returns Wednesday, July 27, after a two-year absence.

Sponsored by Leader Publications, the event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 27 at Northwest High School, 6005 Cedar Hill Road, off the freeway. 30 at Cedar Hill.

Admission is free, and seniors from all over Jefferson County and the surrounding area are invited.

Shuttle service will be available in the parking lot throughout the morning, courtesy of New Hope Fellowship. When the doors open at 8 a.m., free coffee and donuts will be available, courtesy of Leader Publications.

Vendors will be on hand throughout the morning with a wide variety of goods and services of interest to seniors. Many will offer freebies and designs for free items. Smart attendees will bring pre-printed address labels to save time and effort when typing drawings, filling out forms or requesting information.

Throughout the morning, Chief Social media maven Katelyn Mary Skaggs will host a hands-on tech help desk, assisted by a bevy of high school students. They will help seniors with social media and other technology needs.

Visitors to the exhibit are encouraged to visit the Leader Publications booth to be entered into a draw for a grand prize trip to Branson, courtesy of the Branson Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Johnny Morris Foundation.

Winner and three guests will enjoy two nights at the Hilton of Branson, tickets to illusionist Rick Thomas’ “Mansion of Dreams” show, and passes to enjoy the Branson Motorboats, Family Amusement Park Track and Branson Ferris wheel.

Additionally, the winner will receive tickets to a visit to the Natural History Museum of the Ancient Ozarks at Top of the Rock, 150 Top of the Rock Road, Ridgedale, and an electric cart ride through Lost Canyon Cave and Nature Trail nearby, 190 Top of the Rock Road, Hollister.

The winner will have until July 31, 2023 to schedule their trip.

There is a limit of one entry per person and you must be present to win.

The exhibition will also feature several speakers.

The first speaker will be Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Battalion Chief John Griffith, who will speak at 9 a.m. in Room B about the importance of having your house number easily visible.

The second speaker will be from Honor Flight at 9:30 a.m. in Room B.

The third speaker will be Byrnes Mill Police Chief Frank T. Selvaggio, who will give advice on avoiding scams at 10 a.m. in Room B.

At 10:30 a.m., Abby Strickfaden, Health Equity Specialist, Jefferson County Health Department, will speak about Project Lifesaver and how to enroll in this program in Room A. More , at 10:30 a.m., a person from the Jefferson County Library will speak in Room B. about the opening of a satellite branch in Cedar Hill.

■ 9 am – The first of two free bingo sessions, this one reserved for blue ticket holders in room A, with restaurant coupons and gift certificates as prizes.

■ 9:00 am – Cedar Hill Fire District Battalion Chief John Griffith will speak in Room B on how house numbers save lives and other safety tips.

■ 9:30 am – Rosalie McGaugh will speak in Room B about honor flights – what they are, who is eligible, how to register.

■ 10 am – New free bingo session, in room A, this time for yellow ticket holders.

■ 10:00 am – Byrnes Mill Police Chief Frank T. Selvaggio will speak in Room B on senior citizen scams.

■ 10:30 a.m. – Abby Strickfaden, Jefferson County Health Department Health Equity Specialist, speaks on Project Lifesaver in Room A.

■ 10:30 a.m. – Speaker from Jefferson County Library in Room B sharing information about the satellite branch coming to Cedar Hill.

■ 11:00 am – The Grand Prize winner will be announced. Door prizes from vendors will be awarded.

■ 11:15 a.m. – JB Louis and The Legends, the official Leader Senior Expo band, will perform their popular brand of vintage country and rock music. Seniors are invited to sing and dance in the aisles.
