The new version of the New York State Congressional electoral map was formally approved by a state Supreme Court justice shortly before midnight on Friday, The New York Times reported, ending a phase of a recutting roller coaster ride – and starting another.
The entire Upper West Side is now located in the newly drawn District 12, which also includes the Upper East Side and Midtown Manhattan. No more District 10 for us — and no more Jerry Nadler, unless, of course, he wins in District 12, where he’s pledged to run.
But that pits him against Carolyn Maloney in the primary, which has been postponed until August 23, following the reshuffling of precincts.
Maloney and Nadler both served their core districts for three decades — and served in the U.S. House of Representatives as “colleagues and allies,” Maloney told WSR in a recent interview.
Neither wasted time before declaring they would run.

I am proud to announce that I will be running to continue representing the 12th congressional district. The majority of the newly redesigned NY-12 communities are those I have represented for years and with whom I have deep ties. #NY12 #TeamMaloney

But they are not the only candidates in the running. Maude Maron, a self-proclaimed “moderate,” has entered the race, and there may be others.
We will provide profiles of all candidates when the field is clear.
