Side Street Studio Holds Open House at New Location; 13th Annual Comic Book Mania Saturday at the Elgin Library; Township of Dundee pop-up party planned for Hickory Hill Park – Chicago Tribune
Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin will hold its first open house at its future home, 62 S. Grove Ave., from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, October 14.
Side Street directors and staff will be on hand to arrange tours, talk about future plans and answer questions. This event is free and open to the public.
The Reva & David Logan Foundation purchased the waterfront location and leases it to Side Street for $12 a year. The nonprofit arts organization will save about $50,000 a year, according to Side Street administrators.

The deadline for submitting entries for the 2022 Elgin Image Awards has been extended to Friday 14th October.
Award categories include people who have helped improve Elgin’s image; an outstanding volunteer; a game-changing project; an organization or business that has made an effort to improve the image of Elgin; a green initiative or business; excellence in building equity; and youth service project.
The winners will be announced on November 1.
The awards are presented by the Enhancing Elgin Committee of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce. As awards have been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, nominations may be for a worthy person, organization or project between 2020 and now.

Dundee Township Park District is hosting a pop-up party from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 15 at Hickory Hill Park, 770 Navajo Drive, Carpentersville.
Activities will include games, sports, disc golf and a drawstring backpack for the first 200 children to participate.
The park is located a quarter mile west of Route 62 on the south side of Longmeadow Parkway.

The 13th Annual Comic Book Mania Convention, featuring cosplayers from Windy City Ghostbusters and League of Enchantment Chicago, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 15 at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 S. Grove Ave., Elgin .
All visitors to Comic Book Mania will receive a free comic book courtesy of Modern Age Comics. Those who dress up as a superhero will receive a prize.
A superhero tattoo station will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Artists and writers will be on hand to speak and showcase their art in Artist Alley. Keith’s Komix and Modern Age Comics will sell comics.
Artist and comic book writer Gene Ha will lead students in a drawing workshop for children in grades 2-12 beginning at 11 a.m. and fellow comic book writer and artist Jim McClain will lead a hands-on program based on its Heroes of STEAM game for kids. from 4th to 12th grade from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
A story hour with a character meet-and-greet photo opportunity will begin at 10 a.m.
