Region roundup: Lisbon beats Dirigo in baseball to finish regular season undefeated
DIXFIELD — Lisbon capped an undefeated regular season with a 5-1 road win over Dirigo in MVC baseball action on Tuesday.
Ethan Brown homered, Levi Tibbetts doubled and threw three relief innings on one hit, and Hunter Brissette and Aiden Parker each had two hits for the Greyhounds (16-0). Mason Booker started on the mound, scattering one hit and two walks while striking out five in three innings, while collecting one of Lisbon’s nine hits at the plate. Tibbetts struck out six and Brissette struck out the team in the seventh inning.
Trenton Hutchinson and Charlie Houghton scored the hits for the Cougars (9-7).
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 8, MADISON 5: The Falcons (3-13) took an early lead and held off the Bulldogs (6-10) in Madison.
Mountain Valley hit first in the second with just one run, made it 2-0 in the third and scored three more runs early in the fourth before Madison came up the board to make it 5-2 after four sleeves. The Bulldogs made it interesting with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Seneca Jones had a pair of hits and pitched the first six innings for the Falcons, and Zach New also had two hits. Jakob Lapointe and Leon Salmon, who finished the game on the mound, each recorded doubles.
Jack Theriault suffered the loss at the mound for Madison, which had four hits against the Mountain Valley pitchers.
OXFORD HILLS 8, SKOWHEGAN 2: Andrew Merrill hit a pair of home runs and drove in five as Oxford Hills (14-2) wrapped up their regular season with a road win over the River Hawks (8-8) at Skowhegan.
Merrill, who went 3 for 3, also had a brace and scored a point. Eli Soehren pitched 6 1/3 innings and retired eight for the win.
Tyler Annis homered for Skowhegan, while Ben Morgan and Payson Washburn each had two hits.
DIRIGO 5, LISBON 4: The Cougars (7-9) picked up the victory with one out in the bottom of the seventh to put away the Greyhounds (5-11) at Dixfield.
Dirigo took a 4-0 lead after three innings, then saw that lead evaporate in the fifth and sixth innings, when Lisbon scored four unearned runs against Cougars pitcher Grace Robbins.
Robbins had two of Dirigo’s six hits against Lisbon pitcher Erica Hill, including a double, and drove in two runs. Kallie Errington also doubled for Dirigo.
Hill had two of Lisbon’s five hits against Robbins, including a triple. Delany McGrath scored a brace and Elle Burkhardt had two points.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 11, MT. ABRAM 1 (5 HOSTEL): Taylor Truman had a double, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Mustangs to a five-inning victory over the Roadrunners in Monmouth.
Brooklyn Federico took the win in the circle for the Mustangs (13-3). Shannah Parsons added three hits.
Mt. Abram drops to 5-10.
MADISON 11, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0 (5 HOSTEL): Brooke McKenney threw a one-hitter shutout and struck out 10 batters to lead the Bulldogs to an MVC win over the Falcons in Madison.
McKenney, Abi Linkletter and Gilly Bonito each had two hits for Madison (15-1).
Brooke Bennett singled for Mountain Valley (7-9).
CONY 21, EDWARD SMALL 7: Jack Morrill led a powerful offense with five goals and two assists as the Rams (5-7) earned a senior victory on the night at Augusta.
Nick Geneseo (four assists) and Logan Tyler (assist) had four goals each, while Brodi Freeman (assist) and Kyle Crooker had two each and Casey Mills had one goal and one assist. Eli Beland made 19 saves.
Wesley Clements scored six goals for the Red Eddies (2-10). Tyler Smith scored one goal and Daulton David made 14 saves.
Women’s tennis: Singles trio leads Edward Little to playoff win over Bangor
