Dutch Bros Coffee is brewing on the south side of San Antonio

The center of Southside San Antonio is brewing a new business. Dutch Bros, an Oregon-based coffeehouse chain, is preparing to open on Southwest Military Drive, directly across from South Park Mall, the former home of Long John Silver’s.

Company representatives were unable to immediately share an opening date for the location, but construction is underway. The frame and exterior of the building appears to be nearing completion with interior work in progress.

A representative for the brand told MySA Dutch Bros that it was “thrilled” with its continued growth in San Antonio. A concrete date for the opening has not been set.

“Unfortunately, due to the nature of construction, we cannot provide an exact date, but we hope to open at Military Drive this spring,” the rep said.

According to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, work on the new location was expected to be completed by early January. Like most industries, pandemic-related issues have stalled the construction of many new builds. The 950 square foot Dutch Bros would cost $500,000.

The 30-year-old Pacific Northwest chain has grown aggressively in San Antonio since opening its first location off Potranco Road in September 2021. There is now a Dutch Bros on Kitty Hawk and at Castle Hills. In addition to the Southside spot, Dutch Bros also has Austin Highway and Huebner locations in the works.
