Clearfield opens Mountain League with win over BEA – GantNews.com

HYDE – A day after picking up the first win of the year, the Clearfield Bison couldn’t get rid of that feeling. Considering the next game on the schedule was a day later, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to keep that feeling of victory alive. The Bald Eagle Area Eagles arrived at Clearfield High School ready to provide Mountain League competition for the home team.

What he got was a tough shot and a timely strike, as Clearfield added his second victory in as many days, earning a 4-2 win.

The Bison got on the board first to start the afternoon, as with a runner, Ryan Gearhart connected on an RBI single to bring Cole Bloom for the first run. That itself was the only lead change of the afternoon, as the Bisons relied on their first pitcher, Kyle Elensky, to get the job done on the hill. After being the No. 2 guy a year ago for Hunter Dixon, Elensky would go all the way on the mound, striking out seven to earn his first win of the season.

Clearfield added another pair of runs late in the fourth before the visitors went up the board. Alex Gavlock was able to connect on an RBI single to tackle Kahale Burns to cut the lead to 3-1.

But, the Bison managed to add another insurance run in the bottom half of the inning, with Morgen Billotte rounding the base to put the lead back to a 3-run gap.

It wasn’t until the seventh inning that Bald Eagle managed to get another run on the board, as Vaughn netted a key RBI double to bring Burns home for the visitors’ only other run of the game. But, Elensky ended the afternoon to send the local crowd happy.

The Mountain League slate continues for Clearfield (2-1) Friday afternoon, this time on the road as the Bison travel to face Tyrone. Not only is it a road game for the Bison, but the start time is also a bit different. The two teams will enter the field from noon.
